A Ransom For Your Soul

Satan kidnapped the whole human race when Adam sinned. Satan holds us all captive until Christ sets us free. We were all captured at once and Christ paid our ransoms all at once but He sets us free one at a time.

Romans 5:17: For if by one man*s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.

Unbelievers do not understand the simple truths that they have been kidnapped and are being held captive. They are ignorant of those truths because Satan convinces them that they are free when they are not and he convinces them that they will become captives when Christ frees them.

John 8:31-36 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. They answered him, We be Abraham*s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free? Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. If the Son therefore shall make you free, YE SHALL BE FREE INDEED.

Isaiah 61:1: The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; Read Luke 4:18.

I have seen and heard some very surprising reactions within seconds after people have accepted Christ as their personal Savior. One young lady comes to mind. She very forcefully made a one word statement. It was almost a shout: Freedom!! She knew and she strongly made me know that she understood she was now free from something. She didn*t fully understand what she had been freed from. We usually don*t understand everything about that freedom immediately. But we know that God has made a difference for us and in us. Christ has paid our ransom. Christ is our ransom!

1 Corinthians 6:20: For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God*s. 7:23: Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men.

Kidnapped people cannot pay their own ransom. It has to be paid by someone else. It has to be paid by someone who has the wherewithal to pay it. Jesus was the only one who had the wherewithal to pay our ransom. Since He had no sin of his own He did not have to ransom Himself. Therefore, when he paid the ransom it could be for you and me.

Lewis E. Jones asks a very important questions in his hymn There Is Power In The Blood: Would you be free from the burden of sin?
